Understanding your system
What is a
dry riser?
A dry riser is a fixed pipework system that allows firefighters to deliver water to outlets on different levels of a building.
It is normally empty. During an emergency, the fire and rescue service pumps water into the dry riser system through an external 2-way breeching inlet. Firefighters connect hoses to landing valves inside the building to access that water closer to where it is needed.
